Why 'Ivo'

St Ivo of Kermatin (1253 to 1303) is the patron saint of advocates. In brief, he was a noted preacher and arbitor, and a lawyer who practised in both civil and ecclesiastical courts, often defending the poor without charge, and working to settle claims out of court in order to save the litigants time and money. In 1287 he resigned his legal position in order to tend his parishioners at Tredez and Lovannec. He built a hospital from his own funds, in which he tended the poor, and gave away the harvests from his land to feed them.
